How can you change your mindset?
Do you know someone who constantly makes negative comments about events in their life? Have you noticed how they feel in general? I’d bet that they are the ones who feel dissatisfied or apathetic most of the time.
On the flip side, do you know someone who seems overly positive? Someone who no matter what, always seems to be in a good mood and happy?
If you had to make a list of differences between them, what would it be?
Take a minute and think about it, write it down if you want.

Now compare those two persons and you might find glaring differences between them. Now, I’m not telling you to be either person number 1 or 2. There is a good middle ground somewhere for everyone.
But something that you might have found different between them is:
- The way they talk about themselves
- The way they speak about everything else
- Who they surround themselves with
Due to this, it is important to note that language is one of the most important factors in how you perceive the world and feel about it. This makes it a key component if you want to change your mindset.
The difference between “I can’t do this” and “I can do this”. One gives up before they even start pursuing what they want, while the other one is taking action to get what they want. This is what separates people who succeed and those who loathe their own life.
This is why it’s important to change your mindset and how incorporating positive language in your life makes all the difference.

4 types of mindsets

Before we go to the practical tips, it is important to know what kind of mindset you belong to. This helps you to identify opportunities to better apply tips for your particular mindset.
There are 4 different mindsets which are the most common among people. Here you will find a short explanation of each of them.
Growth Mindset:
If you are a person who has a growth mindset, you are someone who believes that hard work and practice are key to personal success. The amount of time spent on gaining experience and honing your craft is what makes you prosper.
Self-Efficacy Mindset:
If you have a Self-efficacy mindset, you believe that you have the ability to reach your goals. There is no problem with creating new paths to success when you can receive help from others. This could be either through their help or other resources made available.
Belonging Mindset:
If you are someone who has a Belonging mindset, you prefer to be welcomed into a learning community. This could be as small as a group of friends or as big as a private community. The key to success for you would be to surround yourself with people who work hard and believe that success is inevitable.
Relevance Mindset:
For those of you who have a Relevance mindset, it is important that the work that you do or a skill that you learn is relevant to what you value. When you can see that the skill you are learning has a purpose for your goal, the motivation will be a lot higher for you as it feels relevant for you to succeed.
How to change mindset and attitude

Now that you know which mindset you belong to, it is time to start making changes. Keep in mind that everyone is different so not all these tips might apply to you. Take the ones that do work for you
Turn your weakness into your strength
If you know a specific weakness that you possess, it is easier for you to turn it into a strength. An example of weakness would be if you procrastinate a lot. In order to turn this weakness into a strength, you might need to improve your work ethic that helps you overcome procrastination.
View challenges as opportunities
Most people are discouraged by challenges because they are difficult to handle. This is understandable, but try to challenge in a different way.
If you encounter a challenge and are able to solve it, you grow as a person. Next time you see the same challenge, it should be easier to solve it. When you keep solving challenges and improving yourself in the process it can add up.
After a while things that seemed like a challenge will be easy to solve. This could come in handy during a difficult time at work in or in your personal life. It could be your way to a promotion or fixing a tough problem for yourself. This is why you should see challenges as an opportunity instead.
Break your goal down into smaller parts
It is good to have a goal in mind as the end result. Focusing on the process itself with measurable goals is better. This way you can keep track of how you are progressing.
Example:
John has an end goal of making $3,000 per month. He only measures by whether he is there or not. He currently makes $2,000 per month and is not happy about it because he hasn’t reached his goal yet. He gets discouraged and stays around this level.
What do you make of this? Compare it to Mike here below…
Mike has the same goal of $3,000 per month. He also has sub goals of $1,000 and $2,000 as well. He is currently at $1,800 and is eager to reach his next goal of $2,000 since it’s so close. This motivates him to continue to work and scale his income.
See the difference between the two? A simple thing as breaking down your goals into smaller measurable parts can help keep you on track with the process of reaching your end goals.
Being imperfect is fine sometimes
When you have areas to improve in your life it does not mean that you are failing automatically. As long as you are working on them, it is actually something positive and means that you are on the right track. It is only a matter of time before your achieve your desired results.
If you can learn from others as well at the same time, it should help you to see things from different perspectives and could help you change your mindset and attitude.
Staying in the right mindset for success
Working on your mindset is not always easy and you might want to quit sometimes. It is very important however to keep your mindset right, if you want to achieve success. Rewarding yourself for achieving smaller goals (as mentioned before) helps you to keep yourself in the right mindset for success.
And as always, finding peers to share your journey with helps a lot as well. Do you have anything you want to share? Comment them here below.
